Nacho Patrol
Nacho Patrol is a band consisting of Danny Wolfers aka Legowelt (synthesizer, drummachines and arrangements) Jimi Hellinga aka Elektrovolt (synthesizer and guitar) and Marc Alberto (saxophone and percussion), representing an explosive and immersive psychedelic electronic afro funk sound. The band was founded in 2008 after Danny Wolfers bought an old 70s wahwah pedal and started to write some afro funk tracks with it. It was soon signed to Kindred Spirits records who asked if Nacho Patrol could play in the line up with Ethiopian jazz legend Mulatu Astatke in his Amsterdam show at Paradiso. Danny brought together a rag-tag team of musicians who would be able to present the Nacho Patrol sound in a live band show. Their live performance is an exploration into Afrobeat infected house and electronics, combining strains of raw Fela Kuti style funk with spaceways electronics and deep house rollidge to immerse your dancefloor. Expect playful live interventions and an electronic space journey to a sci-fi Africa tipping the borders of raw afrobeat funk combined with deep house grooves.
"The title is all you need to know: Futuristic Abeba incarnates some 22nd century Ethiopia, where its denizens languish under twin suns, travel on cyborg camel back and sell androids by desert caravan. Nacho Patrol functions as only one of many schizo-split pseudonyms for the man who calls himself Legowelt, and it's under the Nacho Patrol alias that things take a decidedly conceptual bent." - William Rauscher - Resident Advisor - 2009 Read more on Last.fm.
